NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A day after helping the Vanderbilt lacrosse team earn an 11-10 overtime win over No. 24 Colorado, sophomore goalkeeper Paige Gunning secured American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the conference office.
The Severna Park, Maryland, native made a career-high 13 saves in the Commodores’ win over the Buffaloes. After turning away seven shots in the first half, Gunning followed up with six more saves in the second half.
Sunday marked Gunning’s fifth-career game with double-digit saves and her second such game this season. It was the first time she has been honored by the AAC with a weekly award.
For their efforts in Sunday’s victory, Cassidy Orban and Gabby Fornia earned a spot on the AAC weekly honor roll. Orban scored twice, including the game-winning goal in overtime, while Fornia posted a goal and two assists in the win.
The Dores are back in action at 1 p.m.Wednesday for a home game versus Central Michigan.
