Veronica Fraley wins the shot put and discus at the Indiana Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt track and field’s Veronica Fraley received weekly honors from the SEC, being named Co-Field Athlete of the Week by the league on Tuesday.

At this past weekend’s Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Fraley brought home a pair of first-place finishes, posting top marks in the shot put and the discus.

Fraley threw a career-best 17.33 meters in the shot put to claim her first of two first-place finishes in Bloomington. Over the course of six throws, three surpassed the 17-meter mark. At this point in the season, Fraley ranks fourth in the SEC and 13th in the NCAA in the event. During the indoor season, she won a bronze medal in the shot put at the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships with a then-personal-best mark of 17.25 meters.

Fraley has won four consecutive discus competitions thus far this season. Her 59.27-meter toss at the Indiana Invitational was more than five meters farther than the runner-up and ranks in the top 10 nationally. Currently, she leads the SEC and is ranked fourth in the NCAA with a personal-best throw of 60.24 meters from the Pepsi Florida Relays.

She has competed on the world stage in the discus, having placed 10th in group B at the 2022 World Athletics Championships as a member of Team USA.

Fraley and the rest of Vanderbilt track and field team will be back in action this weekend when they host the Music City Challenge in Nashville on Friday and Saturday.
