NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Five Vanderbilt track and field student-athletes were recognized on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, which was announced Tuesday.
Veronica Fraley (human development), Allyria McBride (environmental sociology), Sarah Omoregie (finance) Julia Rosenberg (psychology / Spanish) and Falon Spearman (medicine, health, & society) were named to the list based on their academic and athletic accomplishments during the 2023-24 academic year.
To be eligible for Academic All-District, student-athletes must be at last a sophomore academically and maintain a minimum 3.50 GPA. Athletically, nominees must be ranked in the top 50 in the region in a single indoor or outdoor track and field event.
All while earning a second master’s degree from Vanderbilt, Fraley won the NCAA discus and SEC shot put titles and was SEC runner up in the discus. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native was also honored at the SEC Field Athlete of the Year, SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Commissioner’s Cup recipient for scoring the most points at the SEC Outdoor Championships.
McBride is a rising junior from Marietta Georgia. This season, she contributed 14 points to the team’s point totals at the indoor and outdoor conference championships. For the second straight season, McBride advanced to the NCAA East First Round in the 400-meter hurdles. During the indoor season, she was a member of the distance medley relay team that won the bronze medal at the conference meet.
Omoregie hails from Cardiff, Whales, and joined the Commodores this season as a graduate transfer from Harvard. She ended her season with a seventh-place finish in the shot put at the NCAA Championships. She also scored at both conference championships, earning the bronze medal indoors and placing seventh outdoors.
Weston, Connecticut, native Rosenberg advanced to the NCAA East First Round in the 1,500 meters and scored in the event at the SEC Championships. She also anchored the bronze medal winning distance medley relay team and scored individually in the 3,000 meters.
Spearman, of Charlotte, North Carolina, recorded the 12th-fastest time at the NCAA regional, 12.16 seconds, and broke the school record for the third time this season. She also advanced to the NCAA First Round in the 400-meter hurdles, an event where she ranks eighth on the Vanderbilt all-time top 10 performers list.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced July 9.
