Gordon saves par to win match for Commodores in extra holes

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Commodores are off to the Final Four.

Vanderbilt won its match against No. 7 seed Texas A&M 3-2 in dramatic fashion on Tuesday to win their quarterfinal match and advance to the afternoon semifinal match, where Vanderbilt will take on Stanford.

The match between the Aggies and Commodores came down to the final match, where Will Gordon outlasted Dan Erickson on the 19th hole to come away with the 1-up victory. Gordon saved par after a wayward tee shot on number one but made a 12 footer for par, while Erickson’s long birdie attempt and subsequent four footer for par missed to give Vanderbilt the match.

The Commodores received wins from Patrick Martin, who won his match 5&4 over Walker Lee, and John Augenstein, who won his match 2&1 over Brandon Smith. The Aggies’ Sam Bennett won his match against Reid Davenport, 1-up, while Chandler Phillips captured his match over Vanderbilt’s Harrison Ott, 3&2.

Vanderbilt will be matched up with Stanford in the semifinals in a match that will be begin at 1:30 p.m. CT. Live coverage on the Golf Channel will begin at 3 p.m. Central.
