Dores Set to Open Season in Auburn

Vandy kicks off spring slate with pair of Big Ten foes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team is geared up for competition as they kick off their spring slate of matches with a pair of neutral contests in Auburn, Alabama.  

The 2022 season gets underway with a pair of Big Ten foes, starting with Wisconsin on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 11 a.m., before taking on Indiana the following day at 9 a.m. 

ITA Rankings 

  • Fifth-year student George Harwell opens the season ranked 34th nationally. 
  • Joubert Klopper, the junior from Bloemfontein, South Africa, comes in ranked 93rd overall at singles.  

Debriefing 

The Commodores are looking to improve on their 2021 spring season which included a 6-16 overall record and a berth in the SEC Tournament. 

Last year the men opened the season with a 4-0 record, including wins over Belmont, Lipscomb, Rice and Illinois State. 

The Season Ahead 

Picked to finish last in the preseason SEC coaches’ poll, the Commodores will look to leave their mark this season. The men are set to host 15 home matches, including eight through the first month of competition.  

After opening the season on the road against Wisconsin and Indiana (Jan. 29-30), the men return to the Currey Tennis Center for eight-straight matches in February. They open their home slate of competition at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4 against Drake.
