• After an exciting overtime victory over Virginia Tech to open the 2024 campaign, Vanderbilt returns to FirstBank Stadium this week to host Alcorn State on Saturday.
• Saturday’s meeting will be the first between the two programs. Alcorn State opened its season at UAB, falling 41-3.

Week 1 Thriller

• Diego Pavia accounted for three touchdowns and posted 294 total yards of offense to lead Vanderbilt to a 34-27 win over Virginia Tech in overtime Saturday to open the 2024 season.
• The Commodores have won three consecutive season openers as Vanderbilt collected its first victory over a team receiving votes since Nov. 12, 2022, when the Dores knocked off RV/24 Kentucky at Kroger Field.
• Vandy scored on its first three offensive possessions to take a 17-0 lead. It marked the first time since 2017 that the Dores scored on their first three possessions to open a campaign.
• Saturday was Vandy’s first overtime contest under head coach Clark Lea.
• Quincy Skinner Jr. finished with a team-high 72 receiving yards on four catches with a touchdown. Skinner has found the end zone in three consecutive games dating back to last season.

Big Debuts

• Transfer Diego Pavia collected 294 total yards in his Vanderbilt debut with three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in overtime to knock off Virginia Tech.
• Freshman Glenn Seabrooks III grabbed an interception in his first collegiate game, marking Vandy’s first pick by a defensive lineman since Nate Clifton on Sept. 2, 2023 vs. Alabama A&M.
• Sophomore Brock Taylor converted a 43-yard field goal on Vanderbilt’s opening drive for his first collegiate kick. Taylor later connected on a 53-yard field goal, tied for fifth longest in program history and longest since 2021.
• Transfer Eli Stowers hauled in a 41-yard reception, one of two catches in his first game as a Commodore. Stowers also registered Vandy’s best run block grade from PFF, coming in at 82.7.
• Transfer Khordae Sydnor registered one of Vanderbilt’s four sacks in the win.

Advanced Metrics from the Win

• According to Sports Info Solutions, Vanderbilt’s defense limited Virginia Tech’s running backs to -0.5 yards before contact per carry.
• Diego Pavia forced eight broken or missed tackles and was 6-for-10 on throws 10-plus yards downfield.
• Vandy generated a 33 percent pressure rate on VT’s quarterbacks.

Accolades from Week 1

• Vanderbilt tallied its first SEC Player of the Week award of the 2024 season as Diego Pavia was named Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Pavia is Vanderbilt’s first SEC Offensive Player of the Week since Mike Wright on November 14, 2022.
• The Commodores were also named the Cheez-It National Team of the Week by the Football Writers Association
