Jammin’ in Paradise …

  • The Commodores traveled to St. Thomas for the 2021 Paradise Jam and competed against the then No. 9 Arizona, Rutgers and DePaul.
  • Vanderbilt went 1-2 over the course of several days, including taking the Wildcats to the brink only to fall on a buzzer-beating jumper.
  • For the Dores first Power 5 victory of the young season, Vandy defeated the Scarlet Knights 51-40.
  • Sacha Washington notched her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds against DePaul.
  • Jordyn Cambridge was named to the All-Tournament team.

Fresh Faces … 

  • The freshmen quartet of Iyana Moore, De’Mauri Flournoy, Kendal Cheesman and Washington have combined for  157 points so far this season.
  • Bella LaChance has entered the rotation for the Commodores as of late and has made contributions in both sides of the ball playing all three games during the Paradise Jam.

Checking out Chattanooga …

  • Chattanooga has had a slow start to the 2021-22 season,with only one win against Tennessee State on Nov. 17, 63-57.
  • The Mocs have faced Belmont (L, 70-88), Tennessee Tech (L, 58-85), Murray State (L, 55-78) and Georgia State (L, 66-77).
  • Chattanooga travels to UAB on Monday before playing at Vanderbilt.
  • Abbey Cornelius was named to the Southern Conference preseason All-Conference team with the Mocs picked to finish fifth in the SoCon.
  • Head coach Katie Burrows added her sister Kristen Clounch to her staff as an assistant, the first time the two sisters have worked on the same staff.

A Bird’s Eye View…

  • Kansas is off to a hot start going 5-1 to begin the 2021-22 season. The Jayhawks have faced SIU-Edwardsville (W, 98-62), Tennessee State (W, 83-60), Omaha (W, 81-56), Saint Louis (W, 79-50), No. 11/10 Tennessee (L, 58-68), UTEP (W, 81-55) and hosts UTRGV at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
  • Holly Kersgieter was named to the All-Tournament team at the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • Kersgieter was also named to the preseason All-Big 12 team, earning the honor for the second consecutive season.
  • Kansas dedicated the Marian E. Washington women’s basketball suite in Allen Fieldhouse. Washington is the winningest coach in Kansas women’s basketball history (560-363) during her career (1973-2004).
  • The Jayhawks boast a fairly well-balanced roster with seven underclassmen and six upperclassmen in addition to a graduate transfer under the direction of seventh year head coach Brandon Schneider.

A Vandy Win Would …

  • Put Vandy on a two-game winning streak after falling to DePaul on Nov. 27.
  • Push Vanderbilt’s lead in the all-time series to 13-6 and 6-2 at home.
  • Give Vandy a four-game lead over Kansas to the Jayhawks’ one win in 1984-85.

A Vandy Loss Would …

  • Put the Commodores on a three-game losing skid.
  • Give Chattanooga seven wins in the all-time series and break the current Vandy win streak of the last four meetings.
  • Be the Jayhawks’ second win inside Allen Fieldhouse over the Commodores.

  • Vanderbilt returns to Memorial Gymnasium for a two-game home-stand against Albany at 11 a.m. Dec. 8 and Presbyterian at 7 p.m. Dec. 18.
