NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No.13 Vanderbilt women’s tennis looks to extend its winning streak at the SEC Tournament, hosted by Auburn from the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The Dores have captured three in a row, highlighted by Sunday’s 4-3 thriller over No. 9 Tennessee to seal the first win in the series since 2022. The result gave Vanderbilt its 11th SEC victory and a No. 5 seed in the tournament. It is the most conference wins for Vandy since claiming 12 in the 2017-18 season, where the team went on to secure its third SEC Championship title.
In this week’s ITA rankings, the Dores remain at No. 13 as a team. Senior Célia-Belle Mohr rejoins the top-10 singles rankings at No. 10 after ranked wins over No. 40 Zoe Hammond of Kentucky and No. 6 Elza Tomase of Tennessee. Junior Bridget Stammel comes in at No. 52 and sophomore Valeria Ray rounds out the singles rankings for Vandy at No. 62. Mohr along with freshman Sophia Webster stay at No. 14 where the pair have been ranked since March 18.
Vanderbilt takes the court Thursday against the winner of No. 13 seed Alabama and No. 12 seed Florida, who play at 3 p.m. this afternoon. The Dores netted a 5-2 victory over the Crimson Tide at home on March 2 and downed Florida 5-2 in Gainesville on March 23. Against Alabama, Vandy is 16-5 in the all-time series. The Gators have taken four of the last six off of the Dores.
The SEC Tournament has seen just four schools claim titles since its inception in 2000: Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. The Dores notched back-to-back tournament titles in 2017 and 2018, their third in a four-year span. The title victory in 2018 came as the top seed in a 4-0 sweep of Florida. Georgia has won the conference tournament in two of the last three seasons.
Out of the 16 teams in the tournament, 14 are ranked, nine of which reside inside the top-25. A win on Thursday sends Vanderbilt to a rematch against No. 6-ranked Auburn, the tournament’s No. 4 seed, who knocked off the Commodores 6-1 earlier this year. Vandy is 6-3 on the road this season and 1-1 in neutral matches.
Vanderbilt is set to face Alabama or Florida on Thursday at 3 p.m. For more information, updates and exclusive game day content, follow the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team, @VandyWTennis, on Instagram and X.
