NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team is featured in the Associated Press Top 25 Women’s College Basketball Poll for the first time in over a decade, as the Commodores broke in at No. 23 in this week’s AP Top 25.
No. 23-ranked Vanderbilt earned a spot in the AP Top 25 after knocking off then-No. 19 Alabama, 66-64, in Tuscaloosa this past Sunday. The Commodores earned 109 votes to make their first appearance in the AP Top 25 since the 2013-14 campaign when the Dores checked in at No. 16 in the Week 15 poll.
It is the second time Vanderbilt has earned a top-25 ranking in one of the two major women’s college basketball polls under head coach Shea Ralph. The Commodores were ranked No. 24 in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll last season after starting 15-1 and 2-0 in the SEC. This week’s USA TODAY/WBCA Coaches Poll comes out on Tuesday.
The win at No. 19 Alabama marked Vanderbilt’s first road win over a ranked team since knocking off No. 24 Missouri, 56-52, on Feb. 28, 2016. It is the second time this season that the Commodores have beaten a ranked opponent, as Vandy posted a 71-70 win over No. 15 Tennessee at Memorial Gymnasium back on Jan. 19. It is the first time since the 2015-16 campaign that the Dores have had multiple victories against ranked foes in a season.
The Commodores have a 17-4 overall record this season and are 4-3 in SEC play. Vandy has won three-straight games and travels to Florida on Thursday for another conference road matchup. Tipoff against the Gators is set for 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
