Commodores third after day two in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team stands in a three-way tie for third following the second day of the 54-hole Mobile Bay Intercollegiate at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.

After holding the day one lead with a two-over 290, Vanderbilt shot a seven-over 295 in Monday’s second round. The Commodores are tied with Louisville and Iowa State, nine strokes off the lead held by Ole Miss, with 18 holes to play on Tuesday.

The Rebels shot a tournament-low three-under 285 on Tuesday to open up a six-stroke advantage over Memphis. MTSU’s Kent Bulle shot an even-par 72 on Monday to remain in the lead, two strokes ahead of a trio of competitors at three-under for the week.

Sophomore Trey DelGreco again had the Commodores’ low round of the day, carding an even-par 72 that included an eagle on the par-5, 596-yard 16th hole. Hit sits in a tie for fifth place just three strokes off the pace.

The highlight of the day for senior Hudson Johnson was an eagle two on the 398-yard, par-4 11th hole. But Johnson was three-over for the back-nine to finish plus-3 for the day. Johnson is tied for 21st at three-over with 18 holes to play.

Junior Ryan Haselden and sophomore Charlie Grace carded matching 74’s again on Monday. The duo is tied for 28th place in the field of 102 golfers.

Senior Chris Rockwell shaved two strokes off his Sunday score to card a three-over 75 on Monday. He stands in 58th place. Competing as an individual, freshman Will Snipes had a four-over 76 in the second round and moved down to 37th position.

Hosted by the University of South Alabama, the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate is playing at 7,212 yards and par-72.
