Commodores Fourth at Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate

LOS CABOS, Mexico – The Commodore men’s golf team finished the Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate in fourth place with a final team score of 858 (285-287-286), as senior Will Gordon lead the way for the week for with a individual total of 211 (69-69-73) and a 13th-place finish.

Vanderbilt posted the third-lowest team score of the final round on Tuesday, with senior Patrick Martin leading the Commodores with a third-round 69. The Commodores also counted a 71 from junior John Augenstein and a pair of 73’s from Gordon and freshman Reid Davenport.

“It was a good day today by our guys,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh.  “We showed a lot of fight and resilience today and those are good building blocks, in my opinion. The ability to stay in the fight is something that’s big for any team and we did that today. I am really proud of Patrick and how he responded today after not playing to his standards yesterday. John hit it really nice today and he took a pretty good step this week towards being the player we know he is. Will was four-over and that’s the first time he’s been knocked on the mat this year, and he responded like a winner responds! These are all good things, and also the way Reid hung in there all week is big for us going forward.”

Oklahoma State won the team and individual titles for the week. The Cowboys won by eight shots over Arizona State with an 820 (277-269-274) and Austin Eckroat claimed medalist honors with a 14-under-par 199 (69-63-67).

“We obviously aren’t satisfied with where we are and we all know we have to be better if we want to be the team we know we can be,” said Limbaugh. “When things are hard it makes you better and I think we got better this week. I want us to be excited about the opportunity we have in front of us and to continue to have a relentless pursuit for improvement.”

Vanderbilt returns to the course March 17-19 at the Valspar Collegiate Championship in Palm City, Florida, at the Floridian Golf Club.
