Commodores Fall To Arkansas In Quarterfinals

Vanderbilt drops match to Razorbacks 3 & 2

The Commodores split the opening two matches of the morning, with Patrick Martin defeating Arkansas’ Mason Overstreet and the Razorbacks’ Luis Garza knocking off Will Gordon, 5 & 4.

John Augenstein won his match 2-up on William Buhl to give the Commodores a 2-1 advantage. The final two matches needed extra holes to settle the match, and both Harrison Ott and Reid Davenport dropped the 19th hole and lost their matches 1-up.

“First of all, I am thankful for this group and how much our program means to them,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We lost a very tough match today and it certainly hurts right now.  Patrick and John did a great job getting their points and our young guys did some really big things in some big moments. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t quite enough today. Sports does this sometimes and we have to be a team that learns from this and the next time we have this opportunity we can be better because of it. This team has a lot of golf in front of us and we will be excited for our next step, which is the NCAA postseason. We will need to take the same competitive character going forward as we had this week because a lot of good things happened this week. We certainly appreciate all the support we had out there today. It means a lot to all of us.”

The Commodores will learn their NCAA Regional fate on May 1 at 8 p.m. CT in an announcement aired live on the Golf Channel.
