NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt bowling won four of its five matches Saturday and will end its run in New Castle, Delaware, eighth on the Northeast Classic Leaderboard.
Due to incoming inclement weather the Commodores will not play the final day of the tournament and will head back to Nashville Sunday morning.
“Today was challenging for our execution and focus,” head coach John Williamson said. “We didn’t do a great job of taking care of the things we’ve been good at taking care of this year. We went 9-1, which is ultimately the thing to do, but if we’re going to compete for total pins, we can’t have the unforced errors we had today.”
Vanderbilt got off to a slow start Saturday dropping its opening match to Wagner College, 922-910. The Dores rebounded quickly, though, and took their second match versus Valparaiso 1,070-960. A 277 from Alyssa Ballard led the way for Vanderbilt’s victory, aided by a 212 from freshman Saphyre Nofuente.
In Round 3, Vandy beat Mercyhurst by a score of 1,078-904. Freshman Sydney Bohn was the Dores’ top bowler in the round with a 255 game. Nofuente bowled 214, senior Kaylee Hitt, 213, and Ballard, 203.
Round 4 was a 983-905 win over host Sacred Heart, highlighted by a score of 252 from Nofuente. Vanderbilt ended its day with a 948-844 win over Norfolk State.
The Commodores’ road swing continues Jan. 24-26 when they travel to Arlington, Texas, for the Prairie View A&M University Invitational.
