Commodore History Corner featuring Bill Traughber
Each Wednesday during the 2004-05 school year, Nashville historian Bill Traughber will offer an exclusive look at key moments in the history of Vanderbilt athletics. The journey begins on August 18, as Traughber chronicles 1951 Commodore All-American Bill Wade’s return to Dudley Field during an NFL exhibition between the Rams and Bears.
The articles, exclusive to the official web site of Vanderbilt athletics, will feature great moments for Commodore student-athletes as well as historic events in sports history that took place on Vanderbilt’s campus.
Over the past several years, Traughber has published approximately 200 sports stories in numerous publications, including: Athlon Baseball Annual, SportsNashville (later NashvilleSportsWeekly), Titans Exclusive, Big Orange Illustrated, The City Paper (Nashville sports history stories and Tennessee Titans feature stories), The Tennessean web site, SouthernHistory.net, the Nashville Sounds web site, Nashville Sounds 2004 program, Tennessee Titans Review (2001 & 2002), The National Pastime (yearly publication of The Society for American Baseball Researchers) and The Flagship (former Vanderbilt University athletics publication).
Traughber is a member of the Tennessee Sports Writers Association, the Society of American Baseball Researchers (SABR) and the Professional Football Writers of America. This past summer, he was awarded the 2003 TSWA award for Best Feature Writer (Division II).
