Charley named All-South Region

Dec. 4, 2014

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – More than a month after the season, the honors keep rolling in for Simone Charley.

The sophomore forward has been named to the NSCAA/Continental Tire All-South Region Second Team. It is the first such honor for Charley and the first for a Vanderbilt player since 2012.

“It is a great honor for Simone,” coach Derek Greene said. “She is an extremely hard worker and the recognition is well deserved. Making it even more impressive is the fact that she is a two-sport athlete and doesn’t train with us for parts of the offseason.”

Charley followed up a superb freshman campaign with a strong sophomore season, which warranted First Team All-SEC honors. The Hoover, Ala., native led the team with nine goals and 21 points, along with tying for a team-best three assists. She scored seven of the team’s nine goals in SEC play, and in her final six games, she had six goals.

In just two years, she has more goals (14) than any current VU player. She now turns her attention to the women’s track team, where she earned Second Team All-American honors after finishing ninth in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships last year as a freshman.
