Furlong named AAC Attack of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Junior Sophie Furlong earned Attack of the Week honors from the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Monday.

Furlong scored a team-high four goals, including three in the second half, to lead Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse to a 14-13 win against No. 10 Denver, giving the Commodores their first win against a top 10 team since 2014. Furlong’s three second-half goals helped the Commodores overcome a 12-8 second-half deficit as Vanderbilt closed the game on a 6-1 run.

Furlong is the third Commodore to win Player of the Week accolades from the AAC this season. Mikela McCauley earned the Freshman of the Week honor on Feb. 24 and Gabby Fornia was the Attack of the Week on Feb. 10.

Furlong and the Commodores welcome two more top 25 opponents to West End this week as No. 13 Michigan visits for a 1 p.m. showdown Wednesday, and No. 21 Penn State comes to the Music City Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest.
