Oct. 23, 2006

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Junior forward Amy Baumann was named to Top Drawer Soccer’s National Team of the Week and was also named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week today after leading the Commodores offensive attack with three goals in two wins over the weekend.

Baumann scored both goals in the Commodores 2-0 win over Ole Miss last Friday in Nashville and then scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in the team’s 4-0 win over Mississippi State on Sunday in Starkville.

The Highlands Ranch, Colo., native has been on an offensive tear, having scored six of her seven goals on the year in the last five games. She has scored the game-winning goal in the last team’s last four victories, which has vaulted them into second place overall in the SEC. Baumann is now the leading scorer on the team with seven goals and three assists for 17 points.

It is the first time she has picked up a weekly honor in her career and the third time this season a Vanderbilt player has been awarded by the SEC. Sarah Dennis was named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 17 and Tyler Griffin was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 10.

The Commodores, 10-3-5 overall and 6-2-2 in the SEC, will close out their regular season slate this Friday on the road against Kentucky. The game time has been moved to a 7 p.m. ET start and will be televised regionally on Fox Sports Net.
