NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The final 2019 preseason poll is out. Vanderbilt took the top spot.
The Commodores will enter the upcoming season as the nation’s No. 1 team per the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the organization announced Monday. It is the third preseason poll (Baseball America and D1Baseball) to crown Vandy the early favorites.
LSU was selected second as they bring to the table a talented squad to the table in 2019, followed by Texas Tech at No. 3. The Red Raiders finished the 2018 season by advancing to the College World Series for the third time in five years.
Vanderbilt returns eight of nine positional players and opens the season one week from Friday in Talking Stick, Arizona. The squad faces Virginia, Cal State Fullerton and TCU before returning to Hawkins Field for the home opener on Feb. 20 against Evansville.
The Commodores ranked no lower than third in the six preseason polls. Vandy checked in at No. 2 by USA Today and Collegiate Baseball and No. 3 by Perfect Game.
