Commodores to host UMass at 4 p.m. on Friday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt welcomes UMass to Nashville for a 4 p.m. contest Friday.

Originally scheduled for 6 p.m., Friday’s game was moved up due to inclement weather moving into the area Friday evening.

 

Pregame Notes

• Vanderbilt and UMass will be meeting for the second time on Friday. UMass won the first meeting 13-6 in 2014.

• Vanderbilt enters the weekend ranked No. 19 in the ILWomen/IWLCA Top 25. 

• The Commodores are 3-0 at home this season and are 18-6 in Nashville under head coach Beth Hewitt.

• Fifth-year senior Gabby Fornia enters play Friday with 141 career assists, ranking second among active players in NCAA D-I. On February 19 vs. Notre Dame, Fornia became just the fifth Commodore to reach 200 career points. Fornia finished the 2021 regular season at second in assists nationally with 55 and ranks second this season with 16. She leads the AAC this season in both assists and assists per game (3.20).

• Melissa Hawkins is tied for third in Vanderbilt history with 114 caused turnovers. The record belongs to Sasha Cielak with 133. Hawkins is sixth in career ground balls at 129.

• Bri Gross is second in Vandy’s record books with 188 draw controls. Ally Carey holds the record with 263.

• Gabby Fornia’s 209 career points is fourth-most in Commodore history. Margie Curran holds the record with 244. 

• Vanderbilt dropped back-to-back road contests at Colorado and Denver last weekend.

• Vandy fell 18-11 at Colorado last Friday. Colorado jumped into the ILWomen/IWLCA Top 25 this week.

• The Commodores were defeated 10-6 last Sunday at No. 12 Denver. The Pioneers moved up to No. 11 this week.
