NASHVILLE, Tenn. — After picking up a 5-2 season-opening win over SMU last week, the No. 21 ranked Vanderbilt women’s tennis team takes to Ann Arbor for Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend hosted by Michigan.
The event runs through Sunday, with 14 different host sites across the country. The winner of both matches secures a qualifying spot into the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, taking place in February and hosted by Illinois and Northwestern.
Vanderbilt (1-0) faces UCSB (0-2) in the first match of the weekend. The Gauchos are 0-1 against SEC competition after falling to LSU in their opening match. UCSB is coming off of a 5-2 loss to San Diego on Sunday. The meeting between the two schools marks the first in program history.
The Dores are led in singles wins by No. 78 ranked sophomore Valeria Ray and freshman Trinetra Vijayakumar, each with 10. No. 26 ranked junior Bridget Stammel tops the team in singles win percentage at 75 percent. Senior Célia-Belle Mohr is closing in on her 150th career match victory; she currently sits at 141 total.
The winner of tomorrow’s match will face the victor of No. 8 Michigan and Yale on Sunday. Play is set to begin at 1 p.m. with live streaming available online.
