All-America Duo

Kumar Rocker, Jack Leiter named first-team preseason All-America by D1Baseball

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The duo of Vanderbilt student-athletes Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter were named to the D1Baseball preseason All-America first team, the publication announced Monday.

The Commodores boasted multiple first team selections for a second consecutive season while joining UCLA as the only two schools to have multiple honorees on the first team.

Rocker posted a 2-1 record on the mound during the 2020 season, which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He registered a 1.80 ERA, while striking out 28 batters across 15 innings of work.

Leiter made four appearances and three starts his freshman campaign, notching a 2-0 record on the hill. He sported a 1.72 ERA across 15.2 innings of action while punching out 22 batters.

The honors serve as the third of the preseason for both Rocker and Leiter as the duo received All-America recognition from Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game.

Rocker and Leiter also took the top two spots in D1Baseball’s 2021 Top 150 MLB Draft Prospects, respectively, joining teammates Isaiah Thomas (No. 27) and Hugh Fisher (No. 51) on the list.

Last week, D1Baseball tabbed Vanderbilt fourth nationally in its preseason Top 25. Additionally, the Commodores came in at second in Collegiate Baseball’s preseason poll, while ranking sixth in Perfect Game’s Top 25.

Vanderbilt opens the season Feb. 19 by welcoming Wright State to Hawkins Field for a three-game weekend series. It marks just the second time in the past five seasons that the Commodores will begin the season at home.
